I designed a shirt for the dayton family fbi ing group just recently. I remember him explaining F. Album Rating: MIRAI, that's pretty awesome. All I know about these guys is that itunes ipod touch toured with ICP recently.

That's a bit of a turn-off. Still may check it out though. The Dayton Family F. Review Summary: An overlooked masterpiece of mid's gangsta rap. Let me preface this review by stating: While the idea of the "studio gangsta" rose during the boom of gangsta rap, this term is one that could never be levelled at Flint, MI's The Dayton Family.

One listen to their albums, without knowing anything about them, and you can tell they have lived what they're rapping about. The group members are Bootleg, Shoestring, and Backstabber, and their debut album "What's On My Mind" painted Flint out to be a desolate landscape, not far from a war-zone. Which, if you've ever been to Flint, isn't an exaggeration. It also played a pivotal role in the creation of the midwest sound acts would get famous for in the following years.

It was rugged, hard, unflinching, and almost celebratory in its depictions of life in the the dayton family fbi ing of Flint. In the year following they released their sophomore album minus Backstabber, who was incarcerated right after the debut dropped.

Bootleg had to lay his rhymes down for the album in 2 weeks, because he was on his way as well. The album title, F.

While the ruggedness was still present on this album, the celebration was over. The influence of the east and west coast had begun to creep into their sound, while keeping the originality of the debut. The difference between this album and the debut is instantly recognizable. The production is a lot tighter, and female vocals open the track. It's a song about dealing drugs and being unstoppable by the law. But, given the circumstances surrounding the album, the dayton family fbi ing hard not to hear the cynicism behind the lyrics.

Bootleg's unique rap style and voice are put to great use in this song, with him and Shoestring dropping some great verses. Title track F. Things lean toward the first album on "Real With This", "Player Haters", and "Eyes Closed", as far as beats and lyrical content are concerned.

The only disappointing song on the album is the aforementioned "Player Haters". Not that it's a bad song, just sort of average. And with a guest appearance by Esham, it could have been so much more. Things get introspective with the possible album highlight "What's On My Mind, pt. But again, there's no sense that they're celebrating this lifestyle this time around. The album closes on an emotional note, with the song "Ghetto", which is like the polar-opposite of debut closer and fantastic, fantastic song "Flint Town".

While The dayton family fbi ing Dayton Family would continue to record, and still make some damn fine albums, they never quite continued the trajectory they were showing with their first two albums. This is due to various members being in prison at various times after their releases. I do suggest checking out their whole catalogue. But start with the debut, and move straight on to F. I really didn't know too much about The Dayton Family, I heard them on a few songs and liked them and saw this album had many good reviews so I checked it out, and needless to say I will be getting some of their other albums.

With 13 songs, 3 are almost classics, 4 are ok, the other 6 are tight songs. Guests rap on 1 song and do the hook on about half of them, Steve Pitts nicely produces the whole album, with some Co-Production from the Dayton Family. A must have album for fans of real rap. One person found this helpful. One of my favorite cd's.

Glad to have found a copy. Audio CD. Flint's Dayton Family developed a Midwest following the dayton family fbi ing the mids, despite never quite breaking through to the mainstream. Dayton Family is one of the most unapologetically hardcore rap acts I've ever heard; they are constantly aggressive and furious, and their subject the dayton family fbi ing consists almost entirely of drug trade, guns, and the desperation of life in the dirt-poor city of Flint.

Their Midwestern mentality lends a pervading gloom ride like a pro review their music, although sometimes it's hard to detect above the in-your-face aggression from Shoestring and Bootleg.

The angry verses concerning drugs and crime are entertaining, but at about the halfway point the album becomes the dayton family fbi ing and repetitive and succumbs to too many cliches.

The best songs, "What's on My Mind 2" and "Ghetto," are those that break the mold and provide emotional insight. The songs are more enjoyable on their own than in the context of the album, because they are so similar. Steve Pitts' production the dayton family fbi ing spectacular, but the gritty, no-frills Midwest sound is a great match for the MCs' product.

For fans of hardcore gangsta rap, "FBI" is an album worth considering. After the intro, "Hand That Rock" discusses the dangers of drug trade over a thumping musical backing, and the rolling title track condemns indictment on an early highlight.

The threatening "Eyes Closed" is frenetic, and it's followed by my favorite song, "What's on My Mind 2. This song is powerful without being the least bit preachy, and the rappers' desperation can be felt through their verses and the music. Although it becomes redundant, "FBI" contains more than enough hardcore hip hop to satisfy the gangsta rap fan. Dayton Family never gained real notoriety despite underground success, but they made good music on the level of many of their contemporaries in ' For those rap fans unfamiliar with the group, I recommend checking out their music, because their product will appeal to many.

However, the group encountered quite a few problems with the law problems that continued in years to come - Baccstabber was gone to prison, and Bootleg's verses were recorded in 2 weeks, since the dayton family fbi ing was going to the big-house as well! However it doesn't show on the album: Nothing really changed about The Dayton Familly - they're still the realest and hardest rappers in the Midwest.

On this album and the others as well they're still rapping agressively over hard hitting, clean and powerful beats. There's nothing at all subtle about the Dayton Family. They tell it like it is, and if it's shocking to you When you hear the Dayton Familly you get to hear their no-way-out mentality with a feel of desperation which is just a part of life. The Dayton boys aren't cocky, they don't floss, they're just troubled guys with a lot on their mind. It's so nice to see rappers so unhinged and unconcerned with pop crossover.

These guys aren't just another hardcore group, there's something unique about them. They not only talk the talk, but they also walk the walk. The were able to overcome so much trouble in their lives and come out with those amazing albums. Anyway, Bootleg and Shoestring deliver their hardest verses you gotta the dayton family fbi ing their voices to understand what hardcore is all about over Steve Pitts' remerkable beats.

You gotta understand - that group that blew up in the 90's was the 1st to bring attention to the Midwest rap scene, way before Eminem ever thought about rapping. Those guys deserve respect - a LOT of it.

See, years before there was 8 Mile, there was Dayton Avenue. The dayton family fbi ing all 33 reviews. There's a problem loading this menu right now. Learn more about Amazon Prime.
